Hit Wallace Station after the Bluegrass Hunger Run/Walk 5K on Saturday. Must give a shout out to the Deuce’s Hell-a-rito. Delicious, and big enough for two. I had two lunches, at a cost of $8. Contents: sausage, egg, roasted red pepper, onions, guacamole, new potatoes, and buffalo sauce. Divine!

It’s already been over a week since I returned from Connections - the. best. work. conference. ever. in Indianapolis. (Thank you, ExactTarget & Inbox Orange.) It was also the site of the best banquet hall food I’ve ever had. (Thank you, JW Marriott.) Take this potato salad for instance. Red potatoes dressed in a delightful blend of seasonings and sour cream. Delish. I also read a review of the “Peach Palmer” - served in the High Velocity bar - on FourSquare, and was not disappointed when I ordered. It was like peach-flavored tea.
I was also thrilled to see one of my Instagram photos make the conference closing video. Just thought the photo they chose was hilarious.

Lunch at Sav’s Grill - Leaf & Beef over Fufu (Taken with instagram)
My friend and I are on a tour of world cuisine around Lexington, KY. I’ll try to post some of our past experiences. We would welcome any suggestions you may have.
This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Flavorful beyond any American pot roast I’ve ever eaten, the broth is made with spinach (leaf) and the beef is tender as can be. I chose to have it over fufu (a plantain dumpling similar to mashed potatoes), and that proved better than the rice my friend picked. The rice soaked up all the wonderful juice! He said his cornish hen was a little dry, but the cheese grits were wonderful. I’ll definitely go back!
Thanks to my tweeps for the Sav’s eating tips: @jeana_with_a_j, @cadyinhaiti, @marymolinaro.

Aaahhhh… Tortilla soup at El Chico in Beaumont. An old favorite. I used to have this for lunch once a week. Years later, it still doesn’t disappoint.

The bottom of the bowl was covered in tortilla chips & melted cheese with chunks of avocado. A pitcher of veggie-filled broth is served on the side. Pour it in your bowl, & delight in an abundance of flavorful chicken, green peppers, onions, corn, carrots, & mushrooms. Perfect for this nasty weather. And as an added treat it was kids’ night. On Thursdays, kids eat for $.99. Our bill (pre-tip) came to $8.50 for me & the two boys.

Side note: what is appropriate behavior when being serenaded by a mariachi band? Do you look at them? Continue eating?

Walking the walk

While waiting to get on Nicholasville Road from New Circle, I watched a woman exit her car and go off on the guy behind her.

“Why would you hit a stopped car?” she yelled, with wild gesturing followed by more yelling. The guy meekly responded, “I’m sorry,” and she seemed to back down.

The two reviewed their unharmed vehicles, deemed all was well, and as she and her elderly mother returned to their car, I noticed their matching “Keep Christ in Christmas” sweatshirts. Complete with 3-D bows.

No, Christians aren’t perfect. But in this doubting society we are held to a higher standard. If we’re going to talk the talk, we need to walk the walk. Especially if we’re going to wear the shirt.

Shake the snowglobe

When was the last time you dared to dream? I mean really get outside your dusty, shelf-sitting snowglobe existence and shake things up. As a newly-wed, new entrepreneur and new parent, I used to dream all the time. But that was 10 years ago. Somewhere along the way I became comfortable with the way things are.

Until today. I’ve been hit with dreams that lay dormant for years.

  • Work from a beach house for a month in the winter.
  • Home school the boys for a year so we can learn on the go.
  • Train to be a doula, and assist women in labor.

Who knows if/when they’ll happen. But one thing is for certain, they won’t if I don’t dream.

Share with me…what are some of your big dreams?

Day Zero Project is a great website to help organize your goals, both short term and long term. I created a list of 101 things to do in the next 1001 days back in May. It’s so gratifying to cross them off.

Seriously? How about you just t.p. Your own house instead.

Sleigh Bells - Riot Rhythm

I rock this song as I pull into the Law School parking lot most mornings.

Press play. Turn it up. And for shit sake pump your fist and nod your head a bit.

I’m not real sure what she’s saying… does it matter?

Answer: No, rock it out anyway.

This song put a little pep in my step this morning.

Enchilada Verdes at El Rancho Tapatio on Burt Road in Lexington. It’s #2 on the lunch menu. Divine, but something in it makes me sleepy. Perhaps it’s two baskets of chips and a vat of salsa? Seriously, this place is a hidden gem. Be sure to ask for the extra sauces. That’s an avocado cream sauce to the right of my plate. Kudos to Stacy for the intro, and Michelle for reminding me to take a pic before digging in. I have good friends!
